The Collegiate 100 at Prairie View A&M University welcomed forty-eight new members into the fold on November 11 in a special induction ceremony held in the Johnson Phillips All Faith Chapel on the campus. This year’s ceremony was combined with the 100 Collegiate Women of America to maximize participation and closer relationship among the men and women.

The new members who come from varied backgrounds, cultures and experiences, representing a cross section of the students at the university are: ladies - Bisola Aboderin, Tarynn Adams, Alajasia Apponey, Myah Armstrong, Armani Callihan, Dominique Clark, Skye Cotton, Benicia Curtis, Chelsea Daly, Candice Garner, Alexandria Hall, Erial Henderson, Celia Hinkson, Elizabeth Johnican, Sharay Johnson, Chloe Louis, Kerryea Martinez, Chape’ll Moore, Ugonna Okpala, Markita Richardson, Gabrielle Scott, Sheri Walls, Davida Wells, Writney Williams. Gentlemen - Jamal Bacon, Roderick Barree, Jeremy Butler, Terry Dixon, Jalen Farmer, Aaron Fowler, Michael Gerald, Tyrone Graves, Cornell Hamilton Jr., Corey Henry, Christopher L. Jackson, Demetrius Jenkins, Crayton Johnson, Kurt Lambert, Te’Sjown McCray, Brian Miller, Dejhon Moore, Timire Morris, Alexander Porter, Jordan Powell, Zuri Stewart, Travino Thomas
Gary Walker and John Watkins.

The Collegiate 100 was founded in 1993 by Frederick V. Roberts Esquire, then Director of Student Activities at Prairie View A&M University. Upon acceptance by the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston, Inc. and approval by the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., and the Collegiate 100 became an international organization for college men. Following a few year hiatus, the Collegiate 100 was rechartered on March 10, 2011 with the induction of 22 members on April 18.

This past year, some of the chapter's activities include participation in the Mentoring the 100 Way project of the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston, Inc.



twice a month, where members work with 30 kids (8-12th graders), providing information on college life and tutoring Math and Science. The chapter also participated in the In-School Mentoring Program at CyFair’s Arnold Middle School, where they provide pep talks on college and life in general. The Arnold mentees also participated in their first college tour to Prairie View A&M University. Other activities was the continued work with the established Boys2Men Mentoring of freshmen male through various seminars with the men and women residents and supported by the residence halls; seminars on **** Cancer Awareness with distribution of literature and pink ribbons; and Relay for Life with American Cancer Society. The chapter also teamed up with Highland Heights Elementary in Acres Home for the HISD Real Men Read Program, where the members read to the students once a month.

The Chapter hosted its first Black Tie Scholarship and Power 100 Awards Gala honoring the SWAC Championship Women’s Basketball and Bowling Teams, Mayors Frank D. Jackson and Michael Wolfe and several students in 2012. The next gala is set for November 16, 2013 at the university to honor and recognize the Texas State Representatives Alma Allen and Sylvester Turner, Dr. George Brown, Dr. Kelvin Kirby and members of the Prairie View A&M University Championship Women’s Volley Ball and the Track Teams.
Plans are underway to host the 2014 Male Youth Summit in February, the National Black Male Leadership Summit in April, along with the 2014 Mr. Collegiate African American Scholarship Pageant.

Jonathan Amos a senior accounting student is the president for the Collegiate 100 and Charnabria Leonard as senior biology student is the president of the 100 Collegiate Women of America. The chapter advisers are Mrs. Shadia Washington, Dr. Clement Glenn and Frederick V. Robert Esquire.
