When: Friday, April 4, 2014
Silent Auction Reception @ 6:30 PM
Dinner @ 7:00 PM
Location: Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Allen University will be hosting the Ninth Annual Richard Allen Awards Gala on Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The purpose of the Gala is to raise money for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). This black tie event will include a silent auction, music by the Allen University Jazz Ensemble, banquet dinner, and dancing. The Richard Allen Awards, named in honor of African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church founder and Allen University namesake Richard Allen, will be presented to several invited guests from the South Carolina area who have made outstanding contributions to society. Individual tickets for this fundraising event are $125 with tables starting at $1000.

The Gala’s theme is “Building a New Era of Excellence,” with all proceeds from the event going toward the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). Allen University has been a UNCF member institution since April 2005.

Each year the organization provides college scholarships for more than 60,000 young people from low- and moderate-income families. Since its founding in 1944, the UNCF has raised more than $3.6 billion dollars to help more than 400,000 students earn a college degree. The organization also helps to provide financial support for its various historically black college and university (HBCU) member institutions (www.uncf.org).
