Jonathan Mata (3-3) allowed just one earned run in six innings with six strikeouts to earn the win for PVAMU (10-12, 6-5), and Jordan Stewart finished with three scoreless innings to finish the game on the mound. Greg Salcido hit 2-of-5, a double, with three RBI to lead the Panthers. Robert Cossey tallied two RBI and a double and Jeff Sealy scored two runs. For SU (4-16, 1-9), Jose De La Torre’s solo homer gave the Jaguars a short-lived 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. De La Torre finished 2-of-5 at the plate with two runs scored. Lance Jones and Brian Rowry each had two hits. J'Markus George (0-2) was tagged with the loss in 5.1 innings of action giving up six earned runs while throwing three strikeouts. Alabama State 9, North Carolina Central 8 BOX SCORE MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama State University used four runs in the eighth inning to rally past North Carolina Central 9-8 on Sunday at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex. ASU (24-8) trailed 7-5 before Richard Amion led off the eighth with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Cesar Rivera beat out a grounder to the right side for an infield single, scoring Amion. After a sacrifice bunt by Richard Gonzalez moved Rivera to second base, Waldyvan Estrada's squeeze bunt scored Estrada with the go-ahead run. Dexter Price then walked before Chase Waters' single into right field scored Marrero for a 9-7 lead. Amion, Rivera, and Estrada each had three hits and scored two runs in the 19-hit performance for the Hornets (24-8). Armando Ruiz (2-2) pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to notch the win, allowing four hits and a run in the ninth. With the tying run on third, he struck out Eric Kimber on a 1-2 pitch for the final out. ASU scored five runs in the first inning to take an early lead. The Hornets began the game with four straight hits. Amion and Rivera each singled to right field, and Gonzalez' single to left scored Amion. Estrada then doubled to left center field, scoring Rivera and advancing Gonzalez to third. After an RBI groundout by Marrero scored Gonzalez for a 3-0 lead, Castro's sacrifice fly scored Estrada. Price then walked and later scored on a single up the middle by Einar Muniz for a 5-0 lead. NCCU (9-17-1) took the lead with three runs in the fourth and sixth innings and a run in the seventh before the late-game rally by ASU. Bryant Battle, Christian Triplett and Eric Kimber each posted two RBI with two hits. Tyson Simpson had three runs scored with two hits for the game. Texas Southern 9, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 8 BOX SCORE PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Texas Southern University handed head coach Michael Robertson his 300th career victory with a 9-8 win in 10 innings over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday at the Torii Hunter Baseball/Softball Complex. Jerry Ford went 4-of-5 with two runs scored. He drove in the tying run on a single to right field in the ninth for TSU (10-16, 7-3) to send the game into extra innings. The Tigers outscored UAPB (8-19, 8-3) 4-3 in the extra inning with Larry Romero (1-1) picking up the win with three strikeouts.
