Our 1,100-acre campus is home to 24,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students and more than 13,500 faculty and staff. The University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and co-manager of nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory, a multidisciplinary research laboratory supporting world class scientific programs utilizing state-of-the-art facilities. Stony Brook Medicine is Suffolk County's only academic medical center and tertiary care provider. Many opportunities exist for collaborative research, and in some cases, joint appointments with BNL or with Medical School departments. Descriptive Title: Research Support Specialist REF#: WC-R-7966-13-06-S Budget Title: same as above Research Foundation Support Position Department: Materials Science and Engineering - Center for Thermal Spray Research RF Line#: R0567000 Grade: N.11 Campus: Stony Brook West Campus/HSC Salary: $36,000 - $40,000Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in related field or foreign equivalent. In lieu of the Bachelor's Degree degree, four years of directly related full time experience, or a combination of higher education and experience totaling four years may be considered. Ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities related to materials processing and thermal spraying. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science. Experience in Materials Science, Thermal Spray and/or related technologies. Brief Description of Duties: The Research Support Specialist will conduct research and support temporary industrial projects. The selected candidate will: Conduct research in the specified thermal spray approach to support new and temporary industrial projects. Collaborate with center and industrial colleagues on project progress and research results. Prepare reports, analyze results. Assist faculty in making presentations to members of the consortium. Other Duties: Special Notes: This is a full time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. **Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are cancelled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
