CHARLOTTE - All Southwestern Athletic Conference defensive back, Avery Boykin (Mississippi Valley State) was selected to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List.

He joins teamamte Seab Fugate who was among the first selected to the Watch List as a defensive lineman.

The CFPA, the largest awards organization in Division I college football, recently announced its watch list for the Football Championship Subdivision that includes 38 players occupying the secondary positions.

The list, updated weekly by position, now includes six football players from the SWAC - linebackers Kourtney Berry (Alabama State) and Jerome Howard (Prairie View A&m) - defensive lineman, Javancy Jones (Jackson State), Amir Bloom (Texas Southern) and Sean Fugate (Mississippi Valley State) were named to the CFPA Watch List for their respective positions.

Boykin (6-0 • 190 • Sr.



• Wilmington, Del.) led the SWAC with six interceptions last season in his first year at MVSU after transferring from Glendale Community College. He also contributed 57 tackles, including four tackles for loss and an interception return for a 52-yard touchdown in an upset win at Alabama A&M. He amassed 77 yards on interception returns averaging 12.83 yards per pick. In addition, he recorded one punt return for 30 yards.

Boykin was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week after finishing with seven tackles (5 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, an interception and a pair of pass breakups to close the Delta Devils' season in a 19-7 loss to Alabama State.

The initial watch list includes 38 defensive backs, vying for the top defensive back award in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
