Savannah State, African Methodist Episcopal university presidents to establish formal partnership

Savannah State University (SSU) President Cheryl D. Dozier and African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) President Joseph T. Isaac will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a collaborative partnership that will include exchange programs and joint research projects for faculty and students. The MOU ceremony will take place Friday, June 27, in the King-Frazier Student Center ballroom beginning at 10 a.m. After signing the MOU document, Isaac will share a presentation about AMEU.

Established in 1995 in Monrovia, Liberia, AMEU enrolls approximately 3,000 students in 10 academic programs offered by three colleges: Bryant Theological Seminary, Business and Public Administration and Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

AMEU is the second Liberian institution to establish a collaborative partnership with SSU.

As a result of an MOU signed earlier this year with the University of Liberia, faculty and students in SSU’s homeland security and emergency management program will travel to Monrovia next month for a two-week summer study abroad program.

Thanks to a robust international education program, SSU students and faculty participate in exchanges and study abroad programs with 26 institutions in 14 countries.

Established in 1890, Savannah State University is the oldest public historically black college or university in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university’s 4,800 students select degree majors from 26 undergraduate and five graduate programs in the three colleges – Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Business Administration and Sciences and Technology – and the School of Teacher Education.
