During a time where Black music dominated the air-waves and could only be heard on Black Radio, a time where strong radio personalities were the order of the day. During the days when KFRC and KYA Pop Radio Stations played little to no Black Music. A time before Michael Jackson broke the color line on MTV, and Urban, and Contemporary Radio were non existent. Than you are well aware of powerhouses Lucky 13, KDIA AM and KSOL 107.7 FM. And the voices that dominated the airwaves, Bob White, Bob Jones, Bill Hall, Jay Sweet, Nick Harper, Marvin Robinson, Diane Blackmon, ( First on-air female broadcast engineer, west of the Rockies), Johnny Morris, Lee Perkins, and Barry Pope were the voice of the community, educated Black and Proud. In a time when Black Power was a verb, an a action item. " Black Radio set the tone and attitude for San Francisco's Bay, from San Jose to Vallejo and everything in between, we were major players in the success of all Black Recording Artists. If you wanted to be heard in Northern California, you had to go through us. From Prince to Michael Jackson, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Pattie, James Brown, George Clinton all of them". Reflects, former KSOL, Program Director, on-air radio broadcaster and San Francisco business entrepreneur, Marvin Robinson. The two stations combined left a forty year musical radio legacy, marking an era that has never quite been duplicated, an impact on San Francisco's Bay Area that promoted progressive unity and pride. Reuniting for the first time in years, for VBETT's Artiszen Cultural Arts Center, Vallejo Community Unity Fundraiser are San Francisco Bay Area Black Radio giants, Marvin Robinson, Diane Blackmon, Johnny Morris and Barry Pope. They will be among the Celebrity Guests attending the Mardi Gras Memories Walk, VIP Reception Fundraiser, marking the official kick off of - Family Reunion Weekend in the city of Vallejo. "It's great to reunite with my mentors and life long dear friends again, these great men sometimes unsung heroes, did a lot for Black music and to educate, entertain and enlighten our Bay Area communities through radio for decades. It's an honor and a privilege to call them my BFF's" states Diane Blackmon Bailey, founder, of the Black University Radio Network ( 50+ USA Markets - Global ), 2ND Screen Global Con and Vallejo Black Empowerment Think Tank ( VBETT ). Marvin Robinson currently produce and host, BayView Hunter Points, District 13, Radio Show, Sundays on KBLX FM one of only a few Black Radio Stations left in the country. Invited VIP guests include, KTVU TV Anchor, Dave Clark, Lee Bailey EUR Web, Vallejo Mayor, Osby Davis, Congressman Mike Thompson, Senator Lois Wolk, LaMarr Blackmon, Black University Radio Network, the OGV Band and other surprise celebrity guests.
