Shirts-Less Material, More Money

Posted By: Nicole Davis on December 11, 2005 I consider myself a Straddler (old enough to remember the good ol' days but young enough to be included in the 18-25 age range category). I am female so I enjoy shopping and I know a lot about it. I remember back in the good ol' days when shirts/tops/blouses covered your whole upper body and cost between $10-50 for generic and brand names, respectively. The material was "ironclad" meaning that it wasn't isn't to tear or rip. The clothing was also separated by seasons. In some states, you can wear a particular outfit the whole year. But in other states, it was necessary to have winter clothes, spring clothes, summer clothes, and fall clothes. Fast Forward ten years.................................NOW! If I go into a department store or clothing boutique in the summer and winter, I see similar or the same apparel in the summer and winter. Mind you...I live in a fairly cold state during the winter time. Anyhow, I always see the light translucent blouses or the shimmery free flow blouses. You know the ones that everyone wears now. I really like the blouses, but the PRICES....are ridiculous. I am barely getting 2 ounces worth of material for the price I was paying for a 6 or 8 ounce t-shirt or blouse a few years back. Additionally, the material is so "fragile" that if I make the wrong move...the blouse is ruined. $25 down the drain and only one good wear. It infuriates me that clothing manufacturers can make skimpy clothes and charge you the amount equal to a full tank of gas in a hummer! Just my thoughts...well, I guess I'll go buy that new shimmer shirt now.
