2014 Summer Interns
|
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on July 22, 2014 This summer, about 36 interns are working with USAID and partners through the Global Health Fellows Program II for 12-week positions in Washington, DC. These paid internships provide opportunities for a diverse group of emerging professionals to gain important global health experience at an early stage in their careers working within the context of the largest development agency in the world. Participants are either currently enrolled in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program, or are recent graduates thereof, coming from a wide array of educational backgrounds, and employing their skills in an equally wide selection of capacities. Internships incorporate not only work objectives, but learning goals as well. One intern is working on Orphans and Vulnerable Children - Child Protection and Social Service System Strengthening, in the Office of HIV/AIDS, focusing on USAID’s efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa. Another is working on Policy, Advocacy, Financing, and Governance, in the Office of Population and Reproductive Health, with a focus on deepening understanding of the interplay of these four areas, and their impact on the health of global populations. And yet another intern is working on the Health Team of USAID’s Africa Bureau, assisting in the preparation of documents for the Africa Regional Office of the World Health Organization, and working on cross-sectoral programming. Through their work this summer, all interns have the opportunity to deepen skills in collaboration and coordination within a complex organizational and implementation structure.
