Wolves News: Letter to Students from Acting President of Cheyney University and Associate Vice President
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 08, 2014

Dear Cheyney University Student,

Last month, I accepted the challenge to become the Acting President of Cheyney University after Dr. Michelle R. Howard-Vital announced her retirement. In addition to my duties as Acting President, I will continue to serve as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, working closely with faculty and staff to make your Cheyney experience a great one.

As you know, the start of the school year is just three weeks away! Athletes, musicians and Resident Advisors arrive on campus this week. Soon, the beautiful quadrangle and residence halls will be buzzing with activity. I want you to know that your Cheyney University of Pennsylvania family is busy preparing for your arrival. We are dedicated to help you succeed as you pursue your degree.

In addition to the changes in University leadership, there are some important changes in in our Enrollment Management and Financial Aid areas that will affect your registration for this year. Under the leadership of Dr. Deborah Bowles, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, we have hired a consulting firm, Financial Aid Processing (FAS), to conduct a file audit and prepare for the reconciliation of Financial Aid records to student accounts for 2011-2014. FAS will also be working with Cheyney University to manage the Financial Aid processing for the 2014-15 academic year. The work of FAS will result in improvements in the Financial Aid process for students and for the University.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to make your registration, financial aid, and move-in process as efficient as possible.

We understand that State and Federal support for education is important in helping you reach your educational goals. We do ask for your patience as the team works through this process.

The following checklist will need to be followed to ensure timely processing for this year:

• Complete the verification process – respond to all correspondence from Cheyney Financial Aid Office or School Servicing Center (SSC). Log in at www.sscwp.org
• Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling at www.studentloans.gov

*if you are a PA resident, be sure that the PHEAA state grant programs do not require additional information from you. Log in https://www.pheaa.org/

In light of that, here are some things that you should know in order to make things run smoothly. New students should visit the Cheyney University admissions website at:
http://www.cheyney.edu/admissions/Undergra... Click on the right side on the accepted student checklist to make sure that you have followed the necessary steps.

We urge you to plan ahead, complete all necessary paperwork, take care of all outstanding bills and make sure that you are cleared for classes which start August 25th.

The new academic year is in your hands. By your daily actions, you will shape your future. Make it a bright one!

Sincerely,
Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins
Acting President
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Deborah Bowles
Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management
