Posted By: How May I Help You NC on August 19, 2014 Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) has pioneered a model of urban teacher preparation that is designed to carefully recruit and select a diverse cohort of talented individuals who are committed to teaching, and to provide them with an effective, supportive, and affordable pathway to becoming an exceptional educator for Boston's children and families. Combining a year-long classroom apprenticeship with targeted master’s-level coursework, the program offers much more than just an affordable route into teaching. BTR provides every Teacher Resident with the practical learning, hands-on experience, and ongoing support essential to any successful career in teaching. Program Highlights • Complete a year of service at a BTR partner school while earning a graduate degree and licensure • Co-teach in a collaborative and supportive teaching and learning environment under the guidance of experienced Clinical Teacher Educators • Complete an integrated graduate curriculum, designed and taught by BTR faculty, with a specific focus on preparing educators for the realities of Boston's schools and serving Boston's diverse student body • Earn a low-cost M.Ed. granted by UMass Boston and MA Initial Teacher license • Participate in continued professional development as a graduate of our program, earn dual license in Special Education or English as a Second Language JOIN a diverse, dynamic, growing community Since 2003, we've prepared over 500 teachers who are working together across to the city. We have 11 cohorts of graduates teaching in Boston Public Schools -- roughly 500 BTR trained teachers. 50% of our residents and graduates are teachers of color; 50% of our secondary teachers are math/science educators.
