Spiro Agnew, a former vice president and governor of Maryland, famed astronomer Carl Sagan and jazz great Ella Fitzgerald, after whom UMES’ performing arts center is named, died. “Kiss from a Rose” by Seal was Record of the Year. A postage stamp cost 32 cents. The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX, the last time “America’s Team” was the NFL champion.
