NEW CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Associate Director of Development, School of Information

This position will support this commitment in the areas detailed below. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: The School of Information seeks a Major Gifts Officer who will actively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospects capable of gifts of $50,000 and above. A focus on discovery visits and portfolio building is expected. The Major Gifts Officer will develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure major gifts from alumni and friends, with a focus on Michigan and the Midwest and manage a portfolio of 100+ prospects and donors securing major and planned gifts. Conduct at least 180 strategic moves with prospects and donors per year, and participate in a minimum of 24 solicitations per year. Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of individual prospects. Ensure consistent and appropriate contact, facilitate or make solicitations, and ensure effective stewardship. Aggressively identify, and formally qualify new major and planned gift prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects, producing a continuous stream of donors capable of making gifts of $50,000 or more to the School of Information. Partner with the Director of Development as well as University development colleagues to execute a successful campaign. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the priorities for the School of Information and the broader university mission to make a persuasive oral and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific school and university needs. Prepare an annual portfolio plan in consultation with the Director of Development. This position is supervised by the Director of Development and will work closely with the UMSI development and alumni relations team, faculty and staff, and university-wide development colleagues. Work closely with Planned Giving colleagues within the University to close planned gifts with an understanding of the principals and techniques associated with planned giving and financial and estate planning. Assist with volunteer structures in recruiting and sustaining strong volunteer network to help in prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation, as well as to provide expanded opportunities for key prospects to engage with the School of Information and the University as a whole. Participate in School of Information events as appropriate; this includes but is not limited to campus-wide activities, on and off-campus donor activities, and other campaign and work events, etc. Perform other duties as required or assigned. Frequent travel is required as is occasional work on weekends and evenings.
