Azusa Pacific University invites you to apply to become the new Associate Vice President of Finance!

This individual is responsible for leading the Finance team in managing the University’s financial and accounting policies, systems and processes, tax and regulatory compliance requirements, internal controls, and annual financial audits. This includes conducting financial analysis, preparing financial reports, developing and implementing an effective system of accounting through GAAP, maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts for the University. This individual will function as the primary financial liaison for the Business Office with Advancement, Enrollment Management, Student Financial Services and the University & Auxiliary Services.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or other business related field. MBA preferred and/or CPA.

Required Experience

• Seven to ten years experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and the management of others. Experience in a higher education or non-profit business setting preferred, but not required.
• Requires knowledge of GAAP, computerized accounting systems, fund accounting, FASB 116 & FASB 117, preparation of financial statements, not-for-profit accounting and compliance issues especially related to higher education
• Possess firm understanding of principles of finance and accounting along with excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Experience in leadership and management to initiate action, direction, and development of subordinates.
  
  
  
  
• Demonstrated experience in technology particularly in the Business Office setting and taking advantage of advancing technologies is of vital importance.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions

• Participate in the provision of effective strategic, financial and management planning for the Business Office.
• Provide leadership and direction to the Finance Team to ensure the effective use of time and resources available.
• Oversee the continuous improvement of accounting and financial processes and the development of the team with the goal to achieve best practices and optimal output.
• Provide financial and accounting advice, direction and leadership through staff training and development opportunities, establishing goals and objectives and the timely evaluation of performance.
• Ensure team delivers the highest standard of department, cross departmental and University wide teamwork and customer service.
• Oversee the accounting and management of the University’s Loan Funds, Endowment Funds, Trust and Annuity Funds, Unexpended Plant Funds and the Investment in Plant Assets Fund.
• Provide management and oversight of Treasury function including cash, investments and reserves while maintaining banking and investment manager relationships.
• Manage the maintenance and upgrade of all PeopleSoft financial information system modules directly affecting the general ledger and other Business Office functions.
• Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory and tax authorities, AICPA directives and other Not-For-Profit guidelines.
• Responsible for the preparation and completion of the University’s annual financial audit and Federal Awards A-133 audit.
• Respond to auditor comments concerning finances and operations, overseeing and implementing required actions to address deficiencies.
• Assists the Senior Vice President & CFO with other duties as assigned.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
• Manage accounting and financial systems, maintaining full and accurate accounting records which allow for timely financial reporting and issuance of statements.

Skills

• Advance knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
• Knowledge in SQL, Microsoft Access or ability to work with financial database application to query data.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft, preferable.
• Strong leadership, analytical and organizational skills through such activities as project and accounting work.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; customer service skills.

• Substantial repetitive motions with wrist, hand and/or fingers, speaking and active listening demands.
• Able to lift, pull, grasp, bend to lower file drawers and reach to top of 5- drawer file cabinet.
• Able to lift up to 20 lbs.

Visual Demands

• Computer monitor and reading.

Environment

• Busy office, comfortable temperatures. At times multiple conversations occurring simultaneously.
