Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 26, 2014 Grambling State University will unveil a newly commissioned mural honoring legendary Grambling football coach Eddie G. Robinson, the all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division 1 football, at the historic Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. central time, prior to the Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic, as the Grambling State Tigers face off against the Prairie View A & M University Panthers. Members of Coach Robinson’s family, former NFL great and Grambling State alumnus Everson Walls, Interim President Dr. Cynthia Warrick and other dignitaries are expected to attend the event. For 57 years, Robinson (b.1919 - d. 2007) was the head coach for the Grambling State Tigers, coaching every game from the sideline and achieving a record of 408 wins, 165 losses, and 15 ties. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997, the same year he retired from coaching. The hanging of the Robinson mural is one of the final touches to a major renovation of the Cotton Bowl commissioned by the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department and completed by leading design+build firm Heery International. The Cotton Bowl first opened in 1936 and has gone through extensive expansion over the years, now seating more than 92,000 fans for events like the State Fair Classic and the annual Red River Rivalry between University of Texas and Oklahoma University. The ribbon-cutting will be held in the elevator lobby entrance beyond Gate A at the Cotton Bowl. Members of the media wishing to attend the event should contact Grambling State’s Media Relations office at 318-274-2418 or mediarelations@gram.edu.
