Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 20, 2014 Position Summary: The Membership Outreach program seeks to expand and diversify HRC’s member and supporter base primarily through community events and member recruitment at LGBT pride and other festivals. This Membership Outreach Manager position is a part of the overall Membership Outreach team but instead of working directly with HRC’s steering committee communities, focuses exclusively on creating engagement opportunities and building HRC’s base in the Project One America states of Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas, and any other states that may be added to the Project’s portfolio. This position is based in Washington, D.C. but will require regular travel to Project One America states throughout the year. This is a matrixed position in the organization, which enables flexibility in terms of interaction across different departments and employees. The position will be supervised by the Director, Membership Outreach including performance reviews and timesheet approval. The position’s time will be dedicated to Project One America and daily project input, guidance, and oversight, including budget approval and input on performance reviews, will be provided by the Director of Project One America. Position Responsibilities: Membership Building and Engagement Plan member and supporter engagement and fundraising events in Project One America states. Work collaboratively with in-state staff to implement member engagement campaigns or initiatives. Work with the Director, Membership Outreach to develop and implement strategies to create relevant and meaningful ways for individuals to engage with HRC. Work directly with in-state volunteers who will assist in event planning and execution. The strategy for engagement in Project One America states will develop and change over time. The Manager is responsible for being an active participant in these discussions. They will represent HRC at various pride festivals and/or work with in-state staff and volunteers to train them for pride participation. Event responsibilities will include but not be limited to: •Talent recruitment and maintenance •Creative work on marketing plans and design of sponsorship packages •Coordination with online strategy team for the creation of emails, online ticket sales modules and social media marketing •Management of all event data to ensure names of attendees and volunteers become part of the HRC database •Insure accurate and timely tracking of all revenue and expense for sound budget oversight •On-site event management for signature events Relationship Building Intrinsic to the work of engaging members in Project One America communities is creating genuine, effective partnerships and building and maintaining relationships within the community. Working in close contact with in-state staff, the Manager is responsible for cultivating relationships that will enable HRC’s work. Whether it is a local volunteer, a pride festival organizer or a new member joining for the first time, this position must provide a high level of customer service and be savvy and motivational in all communication. Volunteer Management Cultivate, train, manage and collaborate with volunteers to insure that they have a successful experience with HRC. Budget Management Develop and monitor all financial aspects of events including monitoring ticket sales and sponsorship dollars raised, paying invoices and negotiating contracts. Responsible for tracking all revenue and expenses related to Membership Outreach work in Project One America states. Participate in annual budgeting process in conjunction with the Director, Membership Outreach. Training Develop and deliver training for HRC’s annual Equality Convention as well as other trainings. Actively participate in the content, design and deliver programmatic trainings and manuals. For pride specifically, train volunteers, staff and ambassadors in membership pitching and on relevant political messaging. Travel Travel to various community events and prides, typically on weekends throughout the year. On-the-ground management and coordination with volunteers will be required on these business trips. Other travel may be assigned as necessary for other membership recruitment or engagement opportunities. Special projects and other duties as required.
