HISTORY: Yours or Mine?

For whatsoever things were written aforetime
were written for our learning, that we through patience
and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Posted By: Ann Mack on December 03, 2014 November 27, 2014 If you were to take a nice long and hard look at the word history, you would see two entirely different words: His and Story. If you were to think about it, it truly makes a lot of sense. Is my story your story or your story my story? No, not exactly! My story hinges on my experiences and your story, I am sure, also is linked to your experiences. But for some reason, because many people find it hard to believe a truth as it relates to me to include their involvement, they want to rewrite my story! In fact, they have been known to be adamant and sometimes indignant on insisting to try to tell me that my story is a lie. And if I allow that to take place which is a form of manipulation and intimidation with the possibility of harassment, then am I not denying myself to include my questionable existence? If you were not present during my experiences to feel the impact of them as they touched my heart, my mind, and my soul as those same experiences have extended to my ancestors, who are you to tell me that my story is a lie? Or could it possibly be that you were a part of my experiences; the negative impactful part which you over time have come to view as being immorally wrong and now want to deny in addition to wanting people to see you not as you were but as who you think you have become? Yes, your past is your past; however, it is still a part of who you are as an individual. Especially, if you attempt to lock away secrets (darkness) deep inside where you think they are safely tucked away. Is it okay for you not to admit that you were wrong and not be willing to take full responsibility for your actions, but you want me to acknowledge the change and growth you have made with no evidence of change? How is that possible? So, I find it very ironic that many people want to deny BLACK HISTORY which is my story to include the horrid system of slavery which has directed, prompted and encouraged many of the laws (double standards) in existence today to include court proceedings or rulings. Should your unwillingness to acknowledge your past or mine absolutely absolve you if you yourself have escaped being rehabilitated by the same system you have put in to place to condemn me? Here’s the second point to my argument! The term and concept of “Black Friday” which has evolved over the years in how it is being used today was originally linked to the history and slavery of black people (or African Americans for you more educated or politically correct folks). And there is truly a great difference between American History and Black History! So, contrary to what others think to include what was written about J.R. Smith, the Knicks shooting guard, in the New York Daily News on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 along with others who took a shot at him, Smith is correct! And yet the underlined problem in many cases is this: “Much of history depending upon the desired outcome was rewritten to disguise the truth.” Amazingly, blacks were denied education during slavery, but that did not prevent them from being accomplished inventors or visionaries while others not only took credit for their accomplishments but successfully attempted to deny them of their just rewards too. Regardless of whether or not I or anyone else majored in history or a particular subject for that matter, does not equate to me or them lacking knowledge in that area of study to be equipped with the necessary facts or truth for informing or educating others to what the truth is! It’s called research or being born with an innate aptitude for learning what others do not think I know, should know or want me to know. Barrack Obama, our first black president who has accomplished this task in accordance to his own merits is being questioned and challenged in his position each and everyday by those who are determined not to give him credit for his role on the basis of the color of his skin. With all his education and brilliance, many people would still have him to believe he does not qualify to be the president of these United States. Before you fly off the handle and lunge at me in a fit of rage, let’s take time to re-evaluate a few points. For some of us, in addition to man’s concept of education which he tends to want to label and validate as being acceptable knowledge for us to utilize when and if it suits him, we have something else working on the inside called the HOLY SPIRIT; that part of God that many wish to deny as being real! Along with the infilling of the HOLY SPIRIT is the imparting of HIS divine nature into the core of our personalities known as the 9 fruits or possible 9 gifts of the HOLY SPIRIT (1 Corinthians 12). The HOLY SPIRIT (known also as the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Jesus Christ) is the third person of the TRINITY sent with divine purpose to HIS Children. So, contrary to HIM being a figment (hallucination or fabrication) of my imagination, HE is a REAL person possessing a will, intellect and emotions. In fact, HE is just as real as “Willie Lynch.” But, depending upon who you ask, I am sure many would lead you to believe that Willie Lynch was a fictitious person too! However, Second, I significantly made mention to the term and concept of “Black Friday” evolving which speaks to the change in reference from one era, time and place in history to how it is viewed today; consumerism at its highest level. Today, we are slaves to corporations that manufacture material goods we cannot seem to do without. They strategize methods for getting us to think we are receiving goods and services at a discounted rate. And for that we are willing to camp out in front of stores no matter the weather to obtain poorly constructed items not worth the mark-up or the discounted rate. To add insult to injury, the shelves are not fully stocked to accommodate everyone as they stampede, push, shove and become slaves to the dollar. And now, I would like to say that “black Friday” was synonymous with the need to obtain more “slave” labor to harvest crops prior to the winter. Those who had slaves to trade or sell were only too eager to do so to turn a profit while getting free labor. Do I have written proof? No! But, what proof do you have that it is not true? Much of the truth about “Black History” which was spoken and not written has unfortunately been buried along with those who endured the experience while so many others attempt to tell us that what we do know to be true did not happen at all. Just as much of history was rewritten and denied, much of it was not written or recorded! Just as much of the truth about Thanksgiving to include the massacre of Native American Indians is not written or captured in the history books accurately! TESTIMONY: My mother, bless her heart, prior to 1973, had mixed emotions about education. I was one who thrived on education and could not wait until my graduation to have the opportunity to go away to college. However, I could not understand my mother’s disturbing statement when she said to me “I did not go to college so I do not think that you are any better than me. I barely got out of high school, but I made it to do alright without college.” I, needless to say, was very upset by such a statement coming from my mother and I was even more confused and puzzled by the hurt and resentment I detected in her voice. Even in my young age, I knew enough to know my mother’s behavior or temperament had to do with something else. Later, I learned the harvesting of crops took precedence over education. Regardless of what event to include an exam was scheduled to take place at school during harvest time, each and every able bodied person was needed on deck to harvest the crops. As much talk ensued, I also learned many patterns and mindsets had transcended from slavery as being the norm. My mother was no longer living in the deep South or the country of North Carolina. She was living in the city of Washington, DC where there were no fields or crops she was required to till the soil or gather before the frost. But the experience of having to endure such intense labor year after year which cut into her personal school time impacted her greatly in depriving her of what she wanted most; that was a desire to go to school to be a nurse! No one knows just how deeply we are tormented by our past to know the long lingering affects afterwards. And yet, there are many who would be the first to say we should get over slavery and move past it. But how is that possible if those within the world who have the power to change the outcome, refuse to let go of their ignorance in how they treat the oppressed or the abused still being victimized by a world system called DOUBLE STANDARD JUSTICE and call it nothing?
