Oakton is located in the near northern Chicago suburbs of Des Plaines and Skokie. Positions teaching English as a Second Language-English Generalist and Graphic Design begin on August 17, 2015. The full consideration date for applications and application materials is January 3, 2015. Positions teaching Early Childhood Education and Physical Therapist Assistant begin on January 11, 2016. The full consideration date for applications and application materials is February 3, 2015. Cultural competency is defined as a composite awareness, emotional maturity, and insights and skills including, a self-insight and the ability to suspend judgment and take responsibility for one's self, self-control of emotions and demonstration of empathy; experience with and success in valuing and working with people of different gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, socio-economic status, and sexual orientation; and adaptability and flexibility in understanding and addressing problems and opportunities in situations where different cultural perspectives and points of view are in play. Faculty hired to teach English as a Second Language-English generalist courses will primarily teach higher education academic English as a Second Language courses and will have demonstrated an excellence in teaching these courses. Faculty with additional academic credentials to teach Composition and Developmental Reading and/or Writing will also be assigned to teach those courses. The Graphic Design faculty hired will primarily teach courses in web design and is expected to serve as the coordinator for the department. Oakton seeks prior experience in chairing or coordinating an academic department from this hire. The Early Childhood Education faculty hire may be asked to serve as the chair of the department. Prior experience with children in professional settings including early childhood programs, kindergarten classrooms, early intervention settings, infant/toddler settings, and home child care programs is required, as is prior supervisory experience in a community or academic early childhood education setting. Prior experience building professional early childhood community connections is also required. Faculty hired to teach Physical Therapist Assistant will be licensed as either a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant and have a minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical work experience as either a Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. Two years of clinical, classroom, in service, or continuing education teaching experience and prior experience working with and supervising physical therapist assistants are also required. The individual hired may be asked to take a leadership role within the department. Applicants must be strong communicators and effective classroom facilitators in a student-centered environment; committed to college-level teaching and innovation in learning, current and skilled in use of technologies; and active in promoting critical thinking. Enthusiastic faculty who are committed to innovation in college level teaching and learning are sought to fill these positions, as are faculty who have an interest in non-traditional delivery of instruction. Oakton expects professional competence, strong leadership qualities, professional development participation, and institutional and departmental service from faculty.
