POSITION Summary Description This position supports agency communications activities, including maintenance of the organization’s website, social media presence, and event planning. Major Duties and Responsibilities Is responsible for daily maintenance and monitoring of NCCD’s websites and social media. Drafts email messages, newsletter content, website text as directed, and social media content. Is responsible for maintaining NCCD’s blog, including helping to plan monthly features, soliciting guest blog posts, ensuring quality of content, and overseeing editing and posting of blog posts. Is responsible for content gathering and layout for NCCD’s internal and external newsletters. Plans and facilitates NCCD events such as the Policy and Practice series. Maintains and monitors communications calendar. Provides general administrative support for the communications team. Such tasks may consist of word processing, proofreading, and creation of internal and external materials as directed; may also include assistance with Board-related activities and communications. Facilitates and provides support for agency development activities and special programs or events. Assists in the collation and preparation of large mailings for distribution. Maintains NCCD’s contact database. Implements event and communications plan for the annual Media for a Just Society Awards program and gala. Program tasks include screening of nominations, coordination of staff reviewers, coordination of travel and logistics for program attendees, management of guest registration process, and other duties as assigned. Assists with the biannual NCCD Conference on Children, Youth, and Families. Attends communications-related events when appropriate. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. Knowledge/Skill Requirements BA degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 3 years’ experience in a communications role. Must possess solid grammar and proofreading skills. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required. Computer proficiency necessary with knowledge/experience in appropriate software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, etc.). Proficiency with Adobe applications (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat, etc.) and web management programs (Drupal). Ability to prioritize and excellent organizational skills are essential. Must be able to take direction from a variety of staff. Must have good working knowledge of office procedures and protocols (i.e., telephone greeting, handling of visitors, filing systems, etc.). Professional appearance and demeanor required.
