Founded in 1863, Boston College is a Jesuit, Catholic university located six miles from downtown Boston with an enrollment of 9,100 full-time undergraduates and 4,700 graduate and professional students. Ranked 31 among national universities and a member of the Association of Research Universities, Boston College has 752 full-time and 1,080 FTE faculty, 2,750 non-faculty employees, an operating budget of $886 million, and an endowment of approximately $2 billion.

Job Description

As part of our initiative to enrich the residential experience of our students and residential staff, the Office of Residential Life seeks a visionary leader for the position of Director of Residential Education. With a commitment to a diverse community, our Jesuit values, and civic engagement within the community, we strive to shape our students and staff to be men and women for others. The Director will lead our efforts to foster an inclusive, supportive, educational, and formative environment that supports the greater mission of the university in our residence halls.

The Office of Residential Life oversees accommodations ranging from traditional residence halls to contemporary apartments, providing safe, diverse, and inclusive environments for 7,400 undergraduates on two campuses. Located on Boston's western boundary, Boston College is situated on a 110-acre site in Chestnut Hill, with a second residential campus located one mile away in Newton, Massachusetts.

The Director of Residential Education is responsible for the planning, direction, and assessment of all programmatic functions of the Office of Residential Life and Housing, including the planning, development, and staffing of residential life and other educational awareness programs in the residence halls.

The Director develops, coordinates, and facilitates both student and community development programs and the administrative operations of the residence halls in support of a population in excess of 7,400 resident students living in all 29 residence halls.

The Director is responsible for the supervision, training, evaluation and professional development of all professional and paraprofessional staff and all graduate and undergraduate student staff, using student development theory, principles of student formation, and Jesuit ideals as foundations.



The Director provides leadership for the planning, direction, and assessment of all student development aspects of the Office of Residential Life. 

The Director will oversees the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programmatic efforts in the residence halls and provides direction and guidance in the interpretation and application of university rules and regulations by overseeing the residential life conduct system.

Requirements

*  Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration or related discipline
*  Minimum of eight years of experience as a full time professional residential life/housing administrator
*  Minimum of five years of experience in residential life dealing with student development, programming, and staff supervision
*  Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity
*  Knowledge and experience in the supervision and training of professional and paraprofessional staff
*  Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and program development as applied to residential life programming
*  Knowledge of student learning outcomes development and the assessment of student learning and residential programs
*  Strong  presentations and reports writing skills
*  Experience dealing with student crisis and at-risk student needs
*  Strong knowledge and experience in working with academic programs and living-learning programs

This is a live off position which has on-call responsibilities and some nights and weekend responsibilities.
