VUU CAPTURES BLACK COLLEGE HOOPS CLASSIC CHAMPIO

Posted By: Maria James on December 30, 2005 Virginia Union University's Darius Hargrove connected on 12 of 24 shots from the field en route to a 31-point performance as VUU downed Bowie State University 60-44 in the championship game of the Southern California Black College Hoops Classic in Los Angeles, Cal., on Thursday night. Hargrove was named MVP of the tournament for his performance. Senior Duan Crockett also scored 16 points and was also named to the all-tournament team. Sophomore Brad Byerson grabbed 10 rebounds and scored nine points as he was also named to the all-tournament team. Senior Chris Greene also had 10 rebounds. Head coach Dave Robbins was named Coach of the Tournament. VUU raised it's record to 7-1 on the year and held a team to below 50 points for the third time this season. VUU returns home to Richmond on Friday night and will return to action on January 5 against Winston-Salem State University in Barco-Stevens Hall.
