Reverend Rodella Porcher-River attended L.R. Nicholas Theological Seminary Ext. at St. Luke AME Church, Charleston, South Carolina, where she earned certificates in Old Testament studies, AME Church History, New Testament Studies and AME Polity. She also attended Trident Technical College, Charleston, South Carolina and completed a B.S. degree in Human Services at Springfield College, Charleston, South Carolina.  Rev. Rivers attended graduate studies in Business Administration and completing her Master of Divinity degree at Southern Wesleyan University in Columbia, South Carolina. ​

Presentation by an Ecumenical Panel – Guest Speakers

 

Rev. Brenda Kneece is the Executive Minister of the South Carolina Christian Action Council (SCCAC).  She works with diverse faith traditions to promote and facilitate dialogue among diverse Christian traditions on matters of belief and practice; advocates for social justice; promotes peace making; and fosters racial and cultural healing and reconciliation.

Ms. Risa  Straus is an educator at Tree of Life Congregation.  She has held the position of Religious School Director since 2004 and Education Director since 2013.  Risa is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Near Eastern and North African Studies, is fluent in Hebrew and has worked extensively in elementary and Jewish education in the United States and Israel.

Imam Omar Shaheed, a Vietnam Veteran, leads Masjid As-Salaam.  Once associated with the Nation of Islam, events eventually turned him to mainstream Sunni Islam.  He is associated with the American Society of Muslims, an association of mosques and schools under the spiritual leadership of W. Deen Muhammad.  Imam Shaheed has been leading the muslim community since 1979.
