Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on April 07, 2015 by Chelsea Moore '17 Two Bennett College students have been chosen as representatives on the newly formed City of Greensboro College Commission. Freshwoman Anna Brown and Junior Nana Sloan are two of the fourteen college students who will serve as members of the commission. The commission’s main goal is to get college students more involved and connected to the community. Her goal is to assist in the efforts to transform the school system. All seven of the city’s colleges and universities handpicked two students to be members of the organization. An initiative of the Greensboro City Council, the program will be run by the city’s parks and recreation department. The students will actively work with one another to provide effective feedback from a student’s perspective to the city council. The overall goal is to not only get students active in the community, but to get them to either stay or return upon the end of their tenure at their prospective institutions. Over the course of the year, students will engage in a host of activities as well as learn the landscape of city government. Chief of Staff Rolanda Burney said, “Bennett College is excited to be a part of this groundbreaking initiative. We look forward, with the City of Greensboro and our other six (6) sister institutions of higher learning, to making meaningful impacts for our community.” If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
