Taft Museum of Art's 2015 Duncanson Artist-in-Residence Program
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on April 10, 2015 The Robert S. Duncanson Society of the Taft Museum of Art is seeking applicants for the 2015 Duncanson Artist-in-Residence program. The Duncanson Artist-in-Residence program was established in 1986 to honor the achievements of contemporary African American artists working in a variety of disciplines. The program honors the relationship between African American painter Robert S. Duncanson and his patron, Nicholas Longworth, who commissioned Duncanson to paint landscape murals in the foyer of his home, now the Taft Museum of Art.
The ideal candidate for 2015 will be a literary artist (writer, poet, or spoken-word artist). This year’s residency coincides with the Taft Museum of Art’s fall exhibition, Jacob Lawrence and the Hero of Haiti.
During the residency, the artist will be active in the community and at the Taft through public events, workshops, classes, and outreach to area schools.
Previous Duncanson Artists-in-Residence include among others poet/essayist Nikki Giovanni, filmmaker William Greaves, playwright/screenwriter Keith Josef Adkins, visual artist Brian Joiner, violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama, soprano Adrienne Danrich, and actor/playwright Nikkole Salter.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter outlining interest in the residency, a current résumé, samples of work, a link to a professional website if the applicant has one, copies of press materials, and descriptions of any programs or workshops done with school or adult audiences. The deadline to apply is May 31, 2015.
Materials should be sent to: Christine Miller, Executive Assistant to the Director, Taft Museum of Art, 316 Pike Street, Cincinnati, OH, 45202-4293.
