Posted By: Jesse Burwell on January 06, 2006 Annual African American Art Festival A Chance for World Famous, Local and Child Artists to Shine STAR ECO Station presents the Annual African American Artist’s Expo, a compelling, culturally rich, family event that has launched the careers of some of LA’s hottest emerging African American artists, as well as provided a unique exhibition space for child artists as young as 5 years old. This FREE event, Feb 4, 2006, includes: Live Music · Dance · Spoken Word Poetry · Paintings · Sculpture · Pottery · World Class Capoeira · Jewelry · plus food, vendors, crafts, games & so much more! Talented students from STAR Education programs at Avalon Gardens Elementary, 59th Street Elementary, Loyola Elementary, Cowan Elementary, Paseo del Rey Elementary, and Watts Learning Center will perform hip-hop dance, jazz, drill team and more! The African American Artist’s Expo is Feb 4, 10am-4pm at the STAR ECO Station, 10101 W. Jefferson Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232. Weekday viewing by appointment only). # # # STAR Education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been committed to improving the quality of children’s education since 1986 with award-winning programs through classroom instruction, after school education, enrichment classes, fieldtrips, assemblies, camps, and community events. In California, 41 school districts choose STAR Education to provide high-caliber educational and enrichment classes on their campuses. STAR’s consistent record of raising test scores and inspiring a love of learning has earned it the prestige of being named a “Model Education Program” by the White House and U.S. Department of Education. STAR ECO Station is a non-profit 18,000 sq-ft environmental education and wildlife rescue center that provides fieldtrips, classroom instruction, after-school enrichment, school assemblies and community events that annually reach 1 million learners of all ages. Through a collaboration with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, STAR ECO Station rescues and houses "at-risk" and endangered exotic wildlife, including tropical birds, exotic reptiles, wildcats, and ocean life. With a mission of Conservation Through Education, STAR ECO Station’s provides quality environmental science education aligned with California State Standards. Voted “Best Place to see Animals,” LA Family Magazine (2002) and voted “Best Teaching Zoo/Animal Rescue” LA Parent Magazine (2003).
