Reno student wins Bill Gates scholarship

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on May 29, 2015 The Gates Millennium Scholarship is easily worth six figures. It's also one of the most difficult to win, no matter a student's grades or academic accomplishments. Joel Paniagua Soto is used to those chances. The odds have been stacked against him as long as he can remember, even further. He didn't start school in the United States until fourth grade, knowing only a few words of English. Eight years later, Soto is steps away from graduation at Reno's Hug High School. Even more, he will likely graduate with a weighted grade-point average tipping past 5.0.
