Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on June 19, 2015 The 19th Annual American Black Film Festival kicked off on Thursday night with the New York City Premier of Open Road Films "DOPE" a coming of age dramedy directed by Rick Famuyiwa, produced by Forest Whitaker, and executive produced by Pharrell Williams. "DOPE" tells the story of Malcolm (Shameik Moore) who is carefully surviving life in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood while juggling the demands of trying to gain acceptance into an Ivy League University. A chance to attend an underground party leads him into an adventure that could change his entire trajectory.
