The department will consider applications from individuals with a physiology background and evidence of successful education research in the discipline. Rank - Tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor Start Date - August 17, 2016 Qualifications - Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physiology or a related field and are expected to have experience in teaching, mentoring, and research in discipline-based education at the post-secondary level. Post-doctoral experience in physiology-based education research is desired. Applicants should provide evidence or show potential to secure extramural funding for physiology education research. Individuals will be expected to teach one of the core courses for the undergraduate degree in integrative physiology, plus one additional course in the candidate’s area of expertise. Responsibilities – Responsibilities are: (1) to establish an independent research program that includes or consists entirely of physiology-based education research and is supported by awards from extramural agencies; (2) to contribute to the teaching mission of the undergraduate program; (3) to provide teaching and mentoring for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; and (4) to perform service for the department, university, and profession. General Information - The faculty roster for the Department of Integrative Physiology includes 24 tenured and tenure-eligible faculty and 9 instructors. The department offers the B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in integrative physiology. The undergraduate and graduate programs comprise ~1900 and 70 students, respectively. The University of Colorado desires to establish a core of discipline-based education researchers (DBER) in its IPHY (Integrative Physiology), EBIO (Ecology & Evolutionary Biology), and MCDB (Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology) Departments with the goal of building a community of biology education researchers. The DBER position for MCDB has already been filled. This year separate searches are being conducted for DBER positions in IPHY and EBIO. It is anticipated that the successful integrative physiology applicant will develop collaborations with this team as well as with the current STEM education program in CU’s other science departments.
