Alcorn Homecoming game kicks off at new time

Alcorn Homecoming game kicks off at new time
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on October 16, 2015

Thousands of Alcorn alumni and fans are expected to pack the Lorman campus Saturday, Oct. 17 for the Braves 2015 Homecoming game against Grambling State University.

The matchup can be viewed online at ESPN3.com and the new kickoff time is 2:35 p.m.

Fanfare will begin early and attendees are encouraged to plan earlier-than-normal morning arrivals to minimize traffic congestion. Parade participants and general parking enter campus through the back gate via the right lane only off of the Dr. Walter Washington Memorial Parkway (Highway 552).

This year’s homecoming theme, “Yard Daze,” takes it back to the 1980s.

The Homecoming parade starts at 9 a.m. A record number of alumni Sounds of Dyn-O-Mite band members — including some who marched in the 1980s — will perform in the parade Saturday and make a donation to assist current band members.

Immediately following the parade, all traffic will convert to one way, entering through the front of campus off of Highway 552.

You can always find proud alumni at Alcorn football games, but Homecoming is a special day for them.

“There’s nothing like Braves football,” said Lakesha Batty ’99, who has never missed a homecoming game since graduation. “The atmosphere is electric. Purple and gold is everywhere. It feels so good to be home and just enjoy your family, friends and lip-smacking, tasty food.”

During the game, attendees will be able to enjoy delicious food from new concession vendors such as Chick-fil-A, Burgers and Blues, Famos and Sno Biz.

Important Reminders:
- To contact Campus Police, dial (601) 877-3000.
- Call 911 in case of an emergency.

- Ticket booths will open at 8 a.m.
- Stadium gates open at noon.
- All passes must be visible from rear view mirror as fans approach entrance gates.
- VIP, premium reserved parking and reserved tailgate passes are sold out.
- Do not throw used charcoals or ashes in dumpsters or trashcans at any time.
- Dumping of used charcoals on Alcorn’s campus is not allowed.

See Alcorn’s Fan Guide or call the automated ticket line at (601) 877-6800 or the ticket office at (601) 877-6818, 6823 or 6822 for more information. Tickets can also be purchased at http://www.ticketmaster.com.

Alcorn’s Chief of Police Douglas Stewart is reminding everyone that game day is a lively time of fun and camaraderie, but safety and security is a priority, too.

“Alumni and fans should be respectful of others,” said Stewart as he discussed being mindful of language and behavior. “Individuals are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the spirit and character of Alcorn. We want the Homecoming experience to be enjoyed by all.”

According to Stewart, several state and local law enforcement agencies including Mississippi Highway Patrol and Mississippi Department of Transportation Law Enforcement will be highly visible and providing support on game day.
