Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 20, 2015

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State University will announce the award of a $5 million research grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) during a 10:30 a.m. media event Monday, Oct. 26 in the Hardcastle-Selby Board of Trustees Conference Room, fourth floor, Claibourne D. Smith Administration Building on campus.

DSU President Harry L. Williams and Dr. Noureddine Melikechi, director of the DSU Optical Science Center for Applied Research, will be joined by Gov. Jack Markell, U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, U.S. Rep. John Carney and other dignitaries for the announcement. Dr. Melikechi will provide information on the DSU research that will be funded by the grant and conducted in support of NASA’s advancement of space exploration.

In addition, Dr.

Williams will also announce a significant partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This partnership is one where the Foundation is partnering with colleges and universities that are transforming their higher education models so that more students-especially low-income and first generation students-graduate at higher rates, with high-quality degrees or certificates at an affordable price.

Following the media event, Dr. Williams and Dr. Melikechi will be available for one-on-one interviews concerning the NASA grant. Dr. Williams and other DSU officials will also be available for interviews about the University’s initiative that is supported by the Gates Foundation.
