Utilizing Sticky Notes for Hiring Strategies
|
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on October 30, 2015 Investing in talent is one of the best ways to grow your company. However, to start-ups, it is no secret that the wrong hiring move can create the opposite effect. Rev1 Ventures, an active Chamber member, helps entrepreneurs convert their ideas into successful businesses; part of that process involves building the right team and connecting talent to their companies. Last week we partnered with Rev1 and the Ohio State Mount Leadership Scholars program to talk with interested first and second year students about innovation and entrepreneurship as part of the program’s Leadership Month activities. During the talk students learned how Rev1 assists the start-up community, ways for them to stay involved with the company, and they received a tour of their facility. We also took this opportunity to discuss how Rev1 is growing as a company and asked them about their process on finding the right person. That’s when they showed us a white board full of sticky notes. Hannah Gray, a venture analyst for Rev1, explained that their success in building and growing their team was essentially in front of us. These bright pink sticky notes with phrases scribbled across them were categorized, prioritized, and defined. They separated what type of person they were looking for into two categories: “Right Level” and “Cultural Fit.” Below each category was a smattering of attributes that the entire team agreed upon, with priority at the top. They used this board as a point of reference to fill their talent need. More: http://columbus.org/2015/10/try-sticky-not...
