Posted By: How May I Help You NC on November 19, 2015 Cheyney University's "Soulful Sound Classy Brass" performed at a November 14 dedication ceremony naming a portion of Philadelphia's City Avenue between Monument Road & Presidential Boulevard in honor of Cheyney Alumnus and "60 Minutes" correspondent, the late Ed Bradley. The dedication for 'Ed Bradley Way' was held at the WDAS radio studio where Bradley worked before getting into television. CBS3 anchor Ukee Washington and Bradley's widow, Patricia Blanchet, spoke to those gathered. Under the direction of Cheyney University Professor and Director of Bands, Allen Gardner, students Keith Cherry, Dylan Edmonds-Carter, Christopher Hammond and Dymund Coles of the Soulful Sound Classy Brass performed selections from movie sound tracks and musicals, classic soul, hip-hop, jazz and classical music in honor of the history-making and award-winning journalist. LeRoy McCarthy, a Cheyney University alumnus residing in New York, was instrumental in naming the street in Bradley’s honor, starting the process in the spring of 2014. Cheyney Alumnus Don Hackney and Dr. John Graham, Interim Vice President of University Advancement and External Relations, also attended the unveiling. Although Bradley's degree from Cheyney was in Education, he left the teaching profession after spending several years in the Philadelphia School District, and went on to have a great radio career and an outstanding television career. The television studio at Cheyney University is named in his honor--The Ed Bradley Broadcast Center.
