Lady Marauders top Lane, 63-57, in regular season finale
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 23, 2016

The Central State Lady Marauders led from beginning until the end in a 63-57 win over the Dragons of Lane College on Monday night.

Trailing early on, CSU took a 10-8 lead after a Brianye' Copeland layup and never trailed from that point on. The Lady Marauders took a 16-9 edge after the first 10 minutes of play and built their lead to 34-23 by halftime.

Central State pushed its lead to 15 midway through the third quarter after a Mustafa Notter jumper put the Lady Marauders ahead, 46-31. CSU maintained a double-digit lead deep into the fourth quarter as a Kourtni Perry make gave CSU a 62-51 lead with 2:06 to play. Lane cut the lead down to 6 with 1:06 left on the clock but CSU successfully managed the clock on their way to the six point victory.

Ghameerah McCullers and Jordyn Bond led the CSU offense with 12 points each. Perry came off the bench to finish with 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Winning three of its final four games, CSU finishes the regular season with a 13-13 overall record and a 6-10 mark in SIAC play.

"We probably had more turnover than any other team entering this season," said CSU Head Coach Sheba Harris. "With thirteen new players on our roster, we are finally starting to play together. Hopefully we can ride this momentum and continue to execute efficiently at next week's conference tournament."

Lane finishes the season with a 5-21 ledger and a conference record of 5-11.

Central State will have a full week to prepare for the SIAC Postseason Tournament in Birmingham, AL. The Lady Marauders will play on Tuesday at 2:30 pm (CST) against the No. 6 seed. Their opponent will be determined later this week.
