Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 23, 2016 Cheyney’s Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President appointed to State Planning Board of American Council on Education’s Women’s Network Pennsylvania Cheyney University will have a key role in the revitalization of the ACE (American Council on Education) Women’s Network Pennsylvania Chapter with the appointment of Sheilah Vance, Esq., Chief of Staff and Deputy to the President, as a State Planning Board Member-at-Large and as the university’s institutional representative. “I’m very pleased to join this dynamic group of women in Pennsylvania as we continue the Network’s important work of identifying, clarifying, and addressing issues of equity for and by women in higher education, as well as promoting their advancement to the highest levels in academe,” said Vance. “I believe that the women who work here at Cheyney will benefit from the vast resources that the American Council on Education brings to its Women’s Network.” ACE is the nation’s most visible and influential higher education association, with more than 1700 member institutions. It represents the presidents of U.S. accredited, degree-granting institutions, which include two- and four-year colleges, private and public universities, and nonprofit and for-profit entities. The ACE Women’s Network is a national system of statewide networks with the goal of advancing and supporting women in higher education. Each state network is led by a state coordinator who works with institutional representatives and at least one presidential sponsor to develop programs that identify, develop, encourage, advance, link, and support (IDEALS) women in higher education careers within that state. “The Pennsylvania Network is planning a series of events for late spring 2016 to announce the reactivation of the network, and I’m sure that we can expect to see here at Cheyney some related strategies, initiatives, programs and meetings in the areas of mentoring, leadership, and professional development,” said Vance. State Planning Board members work with the State Chairperson, Region Coordinators and the Presidential Sponsors to provide leadership and strategic plans of the ACE State Network. Planning Board members compose the governing body for the State, and they lend their support, leadership and expertise to assist the state network in upholding the mission of the ACE’s Women’s Network—a commitment to the advancement of women in higher education. A liberal arts university, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania hosts signature programs such as the Keystone Honors Academy, the Call Me MISTER teaching program, the Aquaculture Research and Education Laboratory and the accredited Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program. Recognized as the first institution for higher learning for African Americans, Cheyney University has been educating students for more than 178 years. The University offers baccalaureate and graduate degree programs at two locations, Cheyney and Philadelphia, PA – Center City.
