Posted By: Hija Chang on March 28, 2016 Central State University will hold a two-day conference, on April 8-9, focused on Farming Our Communities Using Sustainable Practices (FOCUS). Topics will include best practices in sustainable agriculture, small farm management, community gardening tips and building healthy communities. Eight different agencies from the United States Department of Agriculture will be in attendance to answer questions. The event is geared toward minority, women and small farmers. It is sponsored by CSU’s Cooperative Extension Program, Center of Community, Farm, and Family Outreach. Dr. Fred Aikens, who is Program Co-Chair, said, “The conference is made possible by a USDA grant that is intended to build a network for socially disadvantaged, underserved farmers, aspiring and veteran farmers to connect to resources and information provided by the USDA.” Cost for the conference is $25 and the first 100 eligible participants will receive a $100 stipend for attending.
