NSU Theatre Co. Receives National Awards
|
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on March 29, 2016 The NSU Theatre Company has won two national awards from The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for its production of “The Brothers Size.” NSU junior Christopher Lindsay is expected to be honored with the National Award for Distinguished Performance by an Actor in a Play. The overall production will be awarded the National Award for Distinguished Performance and Production Ensembles. The national awards, which are the highest honors available in the U.S. for collegiate productions, will be presented in April at The Kennedy Center. Before making their selections, The Kennedy Center views more than 2,000 productions that feature the work of over 500,000 students. “The Brothers Size” is a drama set in the bayou of Louisiana and based on West African myths. The story centers around two brothers who have gone in different directions, one positive and the other negative, but their lives are forever intertwined. The award-winning play was one of four college productions featured in The Kennedy Center Region IV Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. In February, it was recognized for “Excellence in Directing” and “Excellence in Design.” Anthony Stockard, director of the NSU Theatre Co. and NSU’s Division of Drama, said it is an honor for the production’s 20-person team to be awarded. NSU Theatre Co. has racked up eight awards at both the state and national level since Stockard’s arrival in 2014. “Our students work extremely hard,” Stockard said. “This reinforces the idea throughout the community that our productions and education program are second to none.” --Michael King Holloman If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
