DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITY TO HOLD ANNUAL INSPIRED DAY OF SERVICE SATURDAY, APRIL 2

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on March 30, 2016 Delaware State University’s Inspire Scholarship recipients as well as other students will engage in community service projects at seven locations statewide as part of the University’s 5th annual “Inspired Day of Service” on Saturday, April 2. DSU Inspire Scholarship students are required to do 10 hours of community service per semester. The Inspired Day of Service will provide them with an opportunity to fulfill some of those hours as well as reflect DSU’s core values of “Community” and “Outreach.” Non-Inspire Scholarship students also participate in the event. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a kick-off ceremony in the Martin Luther King Jr. Student Center on campus. More than 300 student volunteers will attend the kick-off along with DSU President Harry L. Williams and other University officials. The students will than fan out across the state to work from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following community service project locations in Delaware: • Bellevue Community Center, 500 Duncan Road. Wilmington, Del. 19809 – Students will assist with various projects, including a neighborhood cleanup around the center. • West End Neighborhood House, 710 N. Lincoln St., Wilmington, Del. 19805 – Students will participate in the Delaware Prevention Coalition Book Buddy Day and introduce young people to the wonders of Legos. • Greater Dover Boys and Girls Club, 375 Simon Circle, Dover, Del. 19904 – Students will participate in some spring cleaning at this site. • College Road, Dover – Students will participate in a cleanup project of that state road that runs south of DSU from Dupont Highway to Dover-Kenton Road. • MLK Student Center, DSU campus. 1200 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, Del. 19901 – Students will be will be packing food in support of a Feeding the Needy project of the DSU’s Division of Housing and Residential Education and the Kids Against Hunger organization to feed 10,000 needy Delawareans. • Habitat for Humanity Restore, 30 S. Kirkwood St., Dover, Del. 19904 – Students will work one of the building projects. • First State Community Action Agency, 308 Railroad Avenue, Georgetown, Del. 19947 – Students will assist with packaging and writing correspondence of support for U.S. troops overseas, and also will help administer a Community Fitness and Fun Day. Following the Opening Ceremony, the DSU President will be at the Habitat for Humanity site at between 10-30-11:15 a.m., the MLK Student Center from 11:30 a.m.-12 noon, and First Action Community Action in Georgetown at 1 p.m. (where he will be joined by State Rep.
