Scouting with the Wildcats

Scouting with the Wildcats
Posted By: How May I Help You NC on March 31, 2016

Local Boy Scouts from the Central Florida Region recently visited the campus of Bethune-Cookman University. More than 120 Boy Scouts and their parents took part in the two-day event known as “B-CU Scouting with the Wildcats Weekend.” This event was the first of its kind for the historic institution.

Organized under the vision of University President, Dr. Edison O. Jackson, this event was developed to support the social, physical, and psychological development of young men while exposing them to a positive environment.

When arriving to campus, the scouts were full of excitement. They prepared their living quarters which, consisted of tents and enjoyed a dinner. The night wrapped up with a night tour of campus.

Assistant Vice President for Community Affairs/K-16 Initiatives, Albert Bouie attend the event and was proud of its overall success. “This is a partnership between the University and the Central Florida Scouts. We want them to be to thinking about college now. We are planting a seed in these young men because college needs to be a part of their future activities,” said Bouie.

The District Director of the Central Florida Council for Boy Scouts of America, Halvern Johnson also attended the two day event and was thankful for the hospitality provided by the University. “Bethune-Cookman really opened up their arms. They treated the scouts like royalty. It was a treat for our scouts to see the college atmosphere.”

The University has future plans to continue supporting this community relations outreach program and is seeking more male volunteers to participate in this noble cause.
