CONGRATS TO JAMEELAH WALKER, FOR BEING SELECTED FOR THE INTERNSHIP AT THE CLEVELAND MUSEUM OF ART!
|
Posted By: Hija Chang on March 31, 2016 Fostering staff diversity is one of the most important museum initiatives of our time. With the leadership of its African American Advisory Committee, the Cleveland Museum of Art offers two paid summer fellowships for undergraduate students from historically black colleges and universities through the director’s sponsorship. The fellows are introduced to the vital work that goes on behind the scenes at the museum and are given substantial projects that foster collaboration with staff in various departments. While specific projects vary from year to year, fellows are matched with opportunities in a number of areas, especially curatorial (conducting art and artist research, writing label copy or texts for the CMA website, and helping prepare checklists and current or future exhibition-related materials, etc.), but opportunities in education, collections management, the Ingalls Library, development, or finance may also be available. Museum professionals serve as mentors, and the director’s fellows join other interns in cross-departmental experiences designed to offer an overview of the scope of a comprehensive museum like the CMA. A short list of candidates will be contacted for interviews by phone. Internship recipients will receive a stipend of $5,000 for a 280-hour internship (June 1–July 20, 2016).
