Honda Campus All Star Challenge
|
Posted By: Hija Chang on March 31, 2016 By Tonne Odum The Honda Campus All Star-Challenge is a quiz bowl competition that was created for historical black colleges and universities. The purpose of this program is to let the brightest minds chosen from each institution to compete against other students worldwide for the chance to win grants for their residing college or university. This program was an excellent idea for the African American community, because it showcases the intelligence that each young man or woman has to bring to the table. The top students will have the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, California to test their academic prowess. Here at the prestigious Rust College institute, the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge is supported and strong as ever. This scholarship program was previously coordinated by our own Dr. Williams and Dr. Robinson, the program was then passed down to Dr. Oliver. They conducted every procedure necessary in order to find those students who were gifted with the brain power and the upstanding attitude to compete in the competition. Dr. Oliver said, “These kinds of programs motivate students to stay in school. Makes students feel really good and become challenged.” The procedure that was taken in order to find those students capable of competing in the challenge was one that was done with the utmost respect and integrity. A total of 124 students from five divisions were given a test that resulted in only 21 of the top scoring students. Of those students, the remaining few were reduced to the following four: Ecacia Moore, Nikayla Harrell, Irah Gates, and Jazzmin Branon. These students were the results of the targeted divisions and practice tests where they scored outstanding high points which lead to them being the top four to represent Rust College in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge.
