Fear the Brave: Alcorn Football Spring Game set for April 23

Fear the Brave: Alcorn Football Spring Game set for April 23
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on April 13, 2016

It’s almost that time of year for the Alcorn State University Braves football team to lace up their cleats, strap on their pads and hit the gridiron for their annual spring game.

Come out and support the back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference Champions as they conclude spring practice and square off against each other in the 2016 spring football scrimmage game Saturday, April 23 at Jack Spinks/Marino Casem Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.

Admission and tailgating is free for all patrons. Alumni, church groups, community organizations and fans can get a glimpse of the Braves while having fun and enjoying great food.

New head coach Fred McNair, a former Braves standout, is extending a special invitation to former players to attend the spring contest.

“Braves football is all about family,” McNair said. “Our student athletes benefit from engagement with alumni players. I want to encourage generations of Alcorn Braves to come out and support our players.”

Athletics is planning a slew of exciting events to thank fans for their unwavering dedication to the Braves football program, including the annual King of the Grill Tailgate Cook-off Contest and Meet the Coaches.

This year, 11 starters from last year, including dynamic, playmaking quarterback, Lenorris Footman, and the 2015 SWAC Newcomer of the Year, Marquis Warford, will return to help the Braves capture its third consecutive SWAC Championship.

Show up to the scrimmage game wearing your Braves apparel with your purple and gold pom-poms and be prepared to cheer on your beloved football team. This is an opportunity to see what’s in store for the 2016 season, so don’t miss out!

Braves fans that buy their season tickets at the spring game can take advantage of loyalty pricing and purchase their packet for only $65. Parents of future Braves ages 10-12 are encouraged to sign their children up to participate in the Braves Kids Club for an opportunity cheer the Braves on to victory. Admission will be on hand to assist in registering prospective Braves Kids Club members.

Fans are encouraged to stay connected and engage via social media using hash tag #FeartheBrave for an opportunity to win free season tickets and other prizes.
