U.S. President Barack Obama said on Monday that Mosul will be liberated by the end of 2016. Reuters/Azad Lashkari U.S. President Barack Obama has estimated that Iraq’s second-largest city Mosul, held by the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) since June 2014, will be recaptured by Iraqi forces by the end of the year. Washington is currently supporting Iraqi and Kurdish troops in northern Iraq in their bid to encircle the city before launching an offensive to liberate it from the radical Islamist group.
