Judge Omar Aboulhosn to Deliver Commencement Address at Bluefield State College’s 2016 Graduation Exercises

Posted By: Hija Chang on May 03, 2016 United States Magistrate Judge Omar Aboulhosn has accepted Bluefield State College’s invitation to serve as the keynote speaker at BSC’s 2016 Commencement Exercises, May 14 at the Brushfork Armory. His appointment as a U.S. Magistrate Judge took effect on January 1, 2016, following his service as a Circuit Judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit (Mercer County) beginning in 2009. Judge Aboulhosn began his public service as a Mercer County magistrate in 1996. His experience includes two years as Princeton City Court Judge, three years as Mercer County Chief Mental Hygiene Commissioner and President of the Princeton Police Civil Service Commission, and as an elected member of Princeton City Council. Judge Aboulhosn was appointed twice to sit on the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. He served as chairman of the West Virginia Supreme Court’s Juvenile Justice Commission and was a member of Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s Intergovernmental Taskforce on Juvenile Justice Reform. He is a former member of the West Virginia Association for Justice Board of Directors and current member of the Jonathan Powell Hope Foundation, Inc. Board, and received the 2007 Governor’s Service Award. An Eagle Scout (1982), Judge Aboulhosn currently serves as a merit badge counselor and chairman of the Eagle Board of Review for the Mountain Dominion District of the Buckskin Council. “Judge Aboulhosn is a strong advocate for education and for BSC, and we are very honored that he will address our graduating Class of 2016,” noted Bluefield State President Dr. Marsha Krotseng. “He is an outstanding role model who believes in giving back to others through service to our local communities, the region, and his profession. His message will certainly inspire our graduates, their families, and friends to make the most of their talents.” More than 330 students are expected to graduate during the May 14 program, the College’s 119th Commencement Exercises.
