ASU Surprises Carver High Seniors with $160,000 in Scholarships

Posted By: Hija Chang on May 04, 2016 Author: Kenneth Mullinax Release Date: May 02, 2016 Alabama State University officials surprised seven seniors from Montgomery’s Carver High School with more than $160,000 in academic scholarships. *** Students from Montgomery’s George Washington Carver High School attending an early morning "Senior-Week" breakfast on Monday, May 2 at the downtown Embassy Suites Hotel got a surprise jolt when the program started, and it wasn't from the coffee. Their surprise came in the form of scholarships to attend Alabama State University. ASU President Gwendolyn E. Boyd served as the keynote speaker for the breakfast and took the opportunity to hand out more than $160,000 in scholarships to deserving Carver seniors. "At Alabama State University, we feel strongly that our nation's youth should be educated beyond high school so as to be prepared for the global economy that awaits them," Boyd said.
