St. Augustine's track star finds success after mother's death

Track and field has always been special to St. Augustine’s Shamia Lassiter. It’s something she calls a god given talent and a sport she always worked hard at because she felt she owed it to herself to use the gift.

“When I started, it was for me to get a scholarship,” she said.

Now the sport means a whole lot more after Lassiter left Raleigh in December to spend some time at home with her siblings and her mother.
