Texas Southern University’s Presidential Search Committee submits names for consideration for next president

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 05, 2016 The Texas Southern University Board of Regents Presidential Search Committee is pleased to announce that following a thorough, nationwide search, it has narrowed down its pool of applicants to two and has forwarded those candidates’ names to the board for consideration as the next president of TSU. The candidates’ names will remain confidential at this time. “Texas Southern University truly appreciates the hard work and dedication of the Presidential Search Committee consisting of local business and university leaders,” said Board Chairman Derrick Mitchell. “On April 28th and 29th, the committee interviewed applicants from across the United States. The candidates were thoughtful and committed individuals interested in pursuing a unique leadership opportunity to advance the status and reputation of Texas Southern University.” Led by Regent Oliver Bell, the Presidential Search Committee was charged with conducting a comprehensive national search for a successor to Dr. John Rudley, Ed.D, who announced in December he would retire as president at the end of this year after nine years at the helm of the university. The new president of Texas Southern University will provide overall leadership and strategic direction to the institution, while maintaining excellence in academic programs, oversight of athletics programs, and cultivating relationships that benefit TSU and enhance its visibility and brand. Diversified Search, Inc. is facilitating the presidential search process, which included the coordination of several forums and town hall type meetings with students, faculty, staff, alumni, community individuals and administrators early in the process to gather input on the characteristics of the next president.
