Alabama State University is excited to announce that Steve Harvey, nationally acclaimed star of television, radio and film, will give the keynote address at its upcoming 293rd Spring Commencement Exercises, which will be held at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday, May 7, at 10 a.m.

Guidelines for Media Coverage of the Commencement Exercises at Alabama State University




Alabama State University has issued the following guidelines for representatives of the news media (both campus news media & external news media) who are assigned to cover the University's Spring Commencement exercises on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Please read the following carefully:

· Access to the floor of the Acadome will be granted on a limited basis to those campus news media and recognized external news media outlets that have made their requests for credentials in advance.

- Deadline to request credentials for external news media is FRIDAY @ 10 A.M. -

Campus News Media Credentials:

· Campus news media should call 229-4202 to request credentials. You will need to provide the names of those who will represent your area. Please note the limitations below.

· Campus media will be limited to the University photographer and his assistant, Publications Department reporter, WVAS production/reporting crew, the video production team and student media (one photographer and reporter). Credentials also will be provided for Village Photography.

· Campus Media (including reporters and photographers/videographers) may pick up their credentials on Friday, May 7, between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. in the Office of Institutional Advancement, room 214 Councill Hall.

External News Media Credentials: Deadline to request credentials is FRIDAY @ 10 A.M.

· Requests to cover Commencement should be made to Media Relations director Kenneth Mullinax by 10 a.m.



on Friday, May 6.

· Please send him your request by email to kmullinax@alasu.edu. If you have questions, you may phone him at 334-229-4104.

· You are asked to limit your request to two (2) staff members (reporter and photographer or videographer). The Media Relations director will determine the viability of all media requests.

· One parking pass for Parking Lot O, located directly behind the Acadome, will be provided for each news outlet.

· Media Relations director Kenneth Mullinax will distribute credentials to external news media representatives between 8:45 and 9:30 on May 6 (Saturday). Media representatives must provide appropriate identification to receive credentials.

· All photographers/videographers must have ASU-authorized credentials to access the Acadome floor. Those credentials must be easily visible at all times. Access will be denied without proper credentials.

· All news coverage will be coordinated by the Media Relations director. He will be on site to receive the media at 8:45 a.m. at the back entrance of the Acadome - basketball court level. He may be contacted by phone on Saturday at 334-229-4104.

Campus and External Media

· Reporters and still photographers should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m.

· All videography equipment must be in place no later than 9:15 a.m.

· News and campus videographers will be given access to specified areas for set-up.

· Videographers must remain in place until the end of the Commencement speech. The Media Relations director will give specific instructions to news media about exiting the Acadome floor.

· Photographers/videographers are asked to conduct themselves in an orderly and unobtrusive manner.

· Photographers/videographers are asked to dress in dark clothing if possible. Attire should be business casual. No “loud” colors are to be worn.

· Only the University Photographer (David Campbell) and his assistant will have full access to the floor of the Acadome. Other photographers will be given instructions about access by the Media Relations Director prior to the event.
