Alabama Breastfeeding Summit Friday at Alabama State University

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 11, 2016 WHEN: Friday, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. WHERE: ASU's Dunn-Oliver Acadome banquet room. The Alabama Breastfeeding Summit will be held at Alabama State University this Friday from 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. in the ASU Dunn-Oliver Acadome's banquet room, which is at the rear of the building. The event is open to the public and lunch is provided. There is a $15 fee to attend. The event is hosted by ASU's CARE CENTER (Center for Advanced Rehabilitative Health & Education) in the ASU College of Health Sciences in cooperation with the national organization "Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere, Inc.," which is headquartered in Atlanta. The 2016 Alabama Breastfeeding Summit is titled: 'Its Only Natural Mother's Love & Mother's Milk' is an event focused on addressing inequities in breastfeeding. This summit is an opportunity to highlight resources and initiatives that are available to help increase the access to breastfeeding support and resources for our families. ALABAMA BREASTFEEDING STATISTICS Currently, Alabama breastfeeding rates are at 67 percent and nationally, breastfeeding rates for African-American babies are approximately 17 percent lower than all other groups. The protective measures for our children from breastfeeding is truly vital to the health of our communities, and this summit speaks to that purpose, which includes giving enhanced immunities from illnesses and lowering the instances of obesity in later life for babies who are breastfed.
