Wanda Foy-Burroughs joins Johnson C. Smith University as Director of Alumni Relations
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 12, 2016

After a nationwide search, Johnson C. Smith University announces the appointment of Wanda Foy-Burroughs as director of Alumni Relations. The Selkirk, N.Y., native was active in the New Jersey alumni chapter and is currently second vice president of the JCSU National Alumni Association. She brings nearly 40 years of experience in education to her new position.

“My passion for JCSU is unwavering,” said Foy-Burroughs. “Alumni are the life’s blood of our alma mater, and I am honored to be their voice. Thank you, Johnson C. Smith University, for bringing me back!”

As the point person for alumni relations at JCSU, Foy-Burroughs will oversee alumni involvement and participation at the university. She will be an integral part of the newly restructured Alumni Relations Department, which will also include an Alumni Relations program officer. The director is responsible for building a responsive alumni relations program which engages alumni through regular communication and deepens their interactions and involvement with the university. She will develop the strategy to cultivate relationships with alumni and future alumni; grow the annual fund in dollars and participation rate; and solicit alumni for donations to the comprehensive campaign. The director will also be responsible for establishing new chapters and increasing alumni engagement in the university’s priorities. The position reports to Joy Paige Springs, vice president for Institutional Advancement.

“I am thrilled to welcome Wanda to the team,” Springs said.

“The search provided us with many worthy candidates, but her breadth and depth of experience in education, leadership development and engagement made her the clear choice.”
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Intermediate Education from Johnson C. Smith University in 1973, Foy-Burroughs went on to obtain a master’s degree from Montclair State University. She amassed 37 years in Newark Public Schools and the New Jersey Department of Education as an instructional specialist, working with school leaders and teachers to continually improve and monitor instruction and student achievement.

An expert in the field of education, Ms. Foy-Burroughs has served as an adjunct professor at Kean University, Essex County College and Seton Hall University. Her passion for higher education advancement combined with her communications and community-building skills will serve the university to expand its presence in the community and increase alumni engagement. She will start at JCSU on July 1, 2016.
