Savannah State hosts Cuban music, dance expert

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on June 09, 2016 Free lessons offered at workshop SAVANNAH – Savannah State University (SSU) WHCJ 90.3 FM will host a Cuban music and dance workshop on Monday, June 27, from noon to 2 p.m. The event will be held at SSU’s Willcox-Wiley Annex dance studio. The Savannah community is invited to learn about the exciting aspects of Cuban dance and music from expert, Daybert Linares. Dance experience is not required, and the event is free and open to the public. Born and raised in Cuba, Linares is a Ph.D. student of contemporary Latin American literature with a focus on the Caribbean at the University of Maryland, College Park. His expertise and passion for Cuban dance and music makes him one of the leading Cuban dance instructors and advocates on the East coast. Additionally, Daybert regularly manages his blog, "Son y Casino," dedicated to the proliferation of Cuban music and dance. Established in 1890, Savannah State University is the oldest public historically black college or university in Georgia and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah. The university’s 4,800 students select majors from 30 undergraduate and six graduate programs in three colleges — Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Business Administration and Sciences and Technology — and the School of Teacher Education.
